All About Short Hair

Are short hairstyles trending why or why not? Do they ever go out of style?

There are only so many different haircuts in the books! What makes a haircut current is the way it’s styled, the amount of volume, amount of texture, and the placement of texture.

Short styles are always trending when done well and suitable for the client. Currently, we see a lot of chic blunt bobs commonly referred to as a “French bob”. An alternative would be a blunt bob cut with invisible layers to create texture and seamless movement.

Why should someone opt for a short style?

A short hairstyle is a great way to opt for easy styling and can require less time. However, short hairstyles can require more trips to the salon, as you’ll feel the outgrowth sooner. I recommend going for a one length bob with invisible layers (created by removing weight). I love this style because you can get away with curling only the top layer for a quick style. It will appear completely styled with on 6-7 sections needing curls.

Are there certain styles that look better based on face shape? Which ones?

If you have a rounder face, a pixie that is styled with a pompadour can create a longer profile. A clean blunt bob (think Vidal Sassoon) can create the appearance of a strong jaw line. We have been seeing strong jawlines a lot recently, achieved with injectables like filler. Cutting a strong lined bob can create this look with out a needle. Also, an A-bang can help to create the look of a heart shaped face, which in beauty school we learn is the most desirable and overall balanced.
